The Department would like to announce the Fall 2017 Blanchard Public Service Forum featured speaker Congressman John Lewis on October 30, 2017 at the Kellogg Center.
Lewis has represented Georgia’s 5th congressional district since 1987. He holds a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy from Fisk University, and is a graduate of the American Baptist theological Seminary, both in Nashville, Tennessee. Not only is he a congressman but he has been a leading civil rights leader, and during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, Lewis was named Chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). In 1977, Lewis was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to direct more than 250,000 volunteers of ACTION, the federal volunteer agency.
In November 1986 he was elected to Congress and has served since then.
