Blackmond Larnell, Twyla

Twyla Blackmond Larnell began her Ph.D in the Political Science department at Michigan State University in the summer of 2006. Born and raised in Chicagoland area, she graduated from Lake Forest College with degrees in political science and economics and a minor in African American studies. Twyla’s doctoral education focuses primarily on American politics and public policy. More specifically, she is interested in local, urban, and state politics and policy, particularly community and economic development. She has experience as a teaching assistant in several courses, including: Race and Social Equality, Parties and Elections, and Intro to American National Government. She has experience as a graduate/research assistant in the Political Science Department and Global Urban Studies Program. Twyla also works for MSU’s Center for Community and Economic Development Program as a graduate assistant and participates in the coordination of the Urban Core Mayor Program, including policy research and grant-writing.
