MSU PLS faculty awarded Provost's Undergraduate Research Initiative grant

The College of Social Science announced the recipients of the SSC-Provost’s Undergraduate Research Initiative Program (SSC-PURI), which supports undergraduate research through awards of up to $2,000 for Fall-Spring semesters for students majoring in our College.

The SSC-PURI provides talented undergraduates, from first-year students to seniors, with an opportunity to work closely with faculty on substantial research projects—usually, but not exclusively, as part of the faculty member’s own scholarly project. 

This year's recipients from MSU Political Science Dr. Ryan Black who will work Jack Carlson.

The senior, who is a Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy major, James Madison College, was the 2022 Kautz Prize winner for his studies under the supervision of Ben Lorch, assistant professor of political philosophy, on the topic of federalism and the question of states’ rights. Carlson’s final paper for the independent study is currently under review for publication in the undergraduate Compass journal.
