Carlos Rios-Santiago, originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Economics and an additional major in Public Policy. He entered the MPP program in the fall of 2016 and plans to complete his studies in the spring of 2018. His policy interests include social insurance policy, fiscal policy, and education. Last spring, he interned in Washington D.C. at the government affairs division of Boston Scientific Corporation. At Boston Scientific, he assisted in drafting legislation for the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act, wrote witness testimony on medical devices, and represented Boston Scientific at National Association of Manufacturers meetings. This past fall, he interned at the Michigan League for Public Policy, where he wrote county profiles on smoking cessation programs for the Right Start publication. After graduating, he hopes to become a policy analyst or advocate, focusing on social security.
