Hyunwoo Kim entered the Ph.D. program in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University in the fall of 2014. He graduated from Sogang University in Seoul, Korea with a BA in history and political science. He also received a MA in political science from Korea University. His major academic interest while completing his MA was revolved around research topics in international finance. His thesis was in preferential trade agreements because, at the time, the Korea-US trade agreement was the most serious political economic issue in Korea. Through his MA thesis, he tried to account for a relationship between industrial preferences and distributive effects of preferential trade agreement-driven deregulation. During the course of his doctoral degree, he plans to study distributional problems in regard to interstate macroeconomic coordination and global standardization of financial regulations.
