Nate Smith began his doctoral training at Michigan State University in 2015, following the completion of a Masters degree in Security Studies from Kansas State University in 2014. Prior to his time at Kansas State, Nate received his B.A. in history from the University of Nebraska in 2010.
In the two years between finishing his undergraduate degree and entering the Security Studies program at Kansas State, Nate split his time between working in Central America with imprisoned youth and completing his M.A. in Counseling from Regent University.
During his time at Kansas State, Nate became aware of his desire to continue studying and researching topics within political science. His primary field of study is International Relations and he is interested in non-state actors, terrorism, civil conflict, and mediation.
Outside of school, Nate enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, camping, hiking, and is an avid football fan.
