Kangwook Han entered the Ph.D. program in the department of political science at Michigan State University in the fall of 2014. He is originally from Jinju, a city in the southern part of South Korea. He earned a BA in Spanish Language and Literature with double major in Political Science, and an MA in Political Science from Korea University in Seoul, South Korea. Kangwook took courses, while an undergraduate student, at the University of Salamanca (Spain) in the fall of 2009 as an exchange student.
His research interests fall under the broad rubric of a comparative analysis of autocratic countries.  He is particularly interested in social protection programs, and regime survival in autocratic countries. More specifically, he tries to find a linkage between introduction of social protection programs and autocratic regime survival. His regional interests are Latin American countries and East Asian countries.
In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and watching movies with drinking something that contains alcohol. His favorite movies are “The Wind that Shakes the Barley” and “Black Swan.” His favorite musicians are Keith Jarrett and Astor Piazzolla.
