Joshua Koss entered the Ph.D. in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University in the Fall of 2018. He received his B.A. from Oakland University in Political Science in 2017, where he graduated with honors. As an undergraduate, Joshua worked over the course of two summers as a Special Collections Archivist on the Mike Rogers Congressional Collection at Oakland University’s Kresge Library which played an influential role in his Honors Thesis on Michigan’s retired members of Congress. Joshua’s research focuses on American political institutions, specifically Congress. He is particularly interested in improving the understanding of congressional retirements, consequences of electoral sensitivity and the “never-ending campaign” within the institution, and the mechanisms through which Congress and the Executive branch influence one another.
