Conversation with Kathy Hagenian, former Executive Policy Director for the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence

Kathy Hagenian recently retired as the Executive Policy Director for the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (MCEDSV). Ms. Hagenian has been fighting against domestic violence and sexual assault and on behalf of the survivors of these crimes for more than 35 years. Ms. Hagenian is widely respected for her leadership in policy initiatives and influence in critical legislative reform efforts. She worked to End Legalized Rape, fought to include domestic violence indicators in child custody laws, played a part in making Michigan the first state in the nation to define stalking as a general intent crime, and other anti-stalking laws. She was also instrumental in early reforms to Michigan's criminal justice response to domestic violence. Ms. Hagenian has served on numerous statewide and national multi-disciplinary groups and received numerous awards over the course of her career. Ms. Hagenian holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Michigan.
