Michigan State University has nominated six undergraduate students and two alumni for the Marshall Scholarship, including three Political Science majors. The Marshall Scholarship provides support to approximately 50 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom. MSU has produced 20 Marshall Scholars to date.
Among the nominees are Jerome Hamilton Jr., an Honors College senior majoring in Political Science in the College of Social Science.
Hamilton was a finalist for the Harry S Truman Scholarship this spring. From Baltimore, Maryland, Hamilton is a Pre-Law student with a minor in Environmental Social Science.
Also nominated was Belma Hodžić, an Honors College senior majoring in Comparative Cultures and Politics in James Madison College, and World Politics in the College of Social Science.
Abigail Rodriguez, an Honors College senior majoring in Art and Humanities in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, and Political Science Pre-Law in the College of Social Science, is the third PLS nominee. She is also a PLS Scholar who is minoring in Chicano/Latino Studies.
“Political Science is so proud of Abigail, Belma, and Jerome, and wish them luck at the next stage of the Marshall Scholarship process. We’re also so excited that half of this year’s seniors nominated from MSU are majors from our department!” said Political Science Chair Dr. Jeff Conroy-Krutz.
Previous Marshall finalists include PLS alumna Jasmine Jordan who was also a finalist for the U.S. Rhodes Scholarship. Jordan was named a Gates-Cambridge Scholar in 2021.
