Three PLS students nominated for Rhodes Scholars

Three of the six Michigan State University nominees for this year’s U.S. Rhodes Scholarship is earning a Political Science degree from the College of Social Science. Jerome Hamilton Jr., Belma Hodžić and Abigail Rodriguez were each nominated for the prestigious scholarship.
The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest international scholarship program in existence, enabling outstanding young people from around the world to study at the University of Oxford. The U.S. Rhodes Scholarship awards 32 scholarships. MSU has produced 20 Rhodes Scholars. Last year also saw four Social-Science affiliated students nominated.
The results of this competition will be determined in the coming months. The college’s nominees for the U.S. Rhodes Scholarship are:
- Caroline Downes, a 2024 Honors College graduate with majors in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in Lyman Briggs College; and Anthropology in the College of Social Science
- Jerome Hamilton Jr., an Honors College senior majoring in Political Science in the College of Social Science.
- Belma Hodžić, an Honors College senior majoring in Comparative Cultures and Politics in James Madison College, and World Politics in the College of Social Science.
- Abigail Rodriguez, an Honors College senior majoring in Art and Humanities in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, and Political Science Pre-Law in the College of Social Science.
