BIOGRAPHY

Siham Hassan is a first-year Master of Public Policy student at Michigan State University. She previously earned a Master of Arts in Advertising and Public Relations from Michigan State University, where she was recognized with the Outstanding Master’s Student Award. She also holds bachelor’s degrees in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy, Media and Information with concentration in film and Arabic. Siham is the co-founder of Najwa Foundation, a survivor-led nonprofit supporting refugees and displaced communities in Sudan, eastern Chad, and Michigan through humanitarian assistance, education, advocacy, and community-centered programming. She is also the founder of Beta Kappa Mu, a service-based Muslim sorority focused on leadership, mentorship, advocacy, authenticity, and belonging. As a survivor of the Darfur genocide and former refugee, Siham’s policy interests include refugee and immigration policy, humanitarian development, nonprofit governance, education, and state and local government. She hopes to use her education and lived experience to strengthen refugee-led organizations, expand opportunities for underserved communities, and pursue a long-term career in public service.
