BIOGRAPHY

Lili Li holds a joint appointment at Michigan State University between the College of Engineering and the Department of Political Science. She serves as an Academic Specialist at the College of Engineering and teaches courses in the Department of Political Science.

Dr. Li earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Jilin University and her master’s degree in Environmental Science from Peking University. She completed her Ph.D. in Public Policy at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore. Prior to joining Michigan State University, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the College of Forestry, Wildlife, and Environment at Auburn University.

Her academic interests center on environmental policy and governance, with a particular focus on addressing environmental challenges through integrated approaches that connect policy, science, and engineering. Her doctoral research examined the layering of diverse policy instruments to support sustainable energy transitions. She has also worked on projects related to COVID-19 policy design, smart city governance, and artificial intelligence governance. Her research has been published in Nature Communications, Applied Energy, Climate Policy, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Public Administration and Development, among other journals.

Outside of work, Lili enjoys hiking, playing board games, cooking, and practicing Gongfu Cha (tea meditation).
