AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
Iliya Liampert’s research focuses on congressional politics, racial and ethnic politics, minority representation, and American political institutions. His work examines how racial and ethnic minorities gain and exercise power within Congress, with particular attention to congressional committees as sites of institutional gatekeeping. His research explores descriptive and substantive representation, committee assignments, and their role in shaping minority legislators’ influence, as well as broader questions of congressional leadership and interbranch relations. He is also interested in minority candidates and campaigns, including how voters respond to the rhetorical strategies of racial minority candidates.CURRICULUM VITAE

BIOGRAPHY
Iliya Liampert joined the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University in Fall 2023. In 2020, he completed his studies in political science and economics at the European Humanities University and Vytautas Magnus University in Lithuania and later conducted research at Reichman University in Israel. Currently, at Michigan State, he is a research fellow at the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research (IPPSR).
Beyond academia, his interests include tabletop role-playing games, fantasy and science fiction, vexillology, history, renaissance fairs, and spending time with his wife and cats.
